Topic: Trade Potentiality between India and China: An Analysis through Trade Intensity Indices

Abstract: India and China are good neighbours. Friendship and cooperation of India and China are not only conforming to the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries but also beneficial for the South Asian region and the whole world. In recent years, bilateral trade and investment between India and China are growing fast, indicating the existence of a vast potential for economic cooperation. The complementarities exist between India and China, particularly in imports from China in electrical and electronics goods, chemicals and silk products. There are limited complementarities of Indian exports to China. Both countries are developing closer economic relations with each other and with the rest of the Asian countries through bilateral and regional agreements.

Here our attempt is to analyze the trade potentiality between India and China through trade intensity indices during the period of 1991 to 2016. We will cover the following aspects of India-China trade: first would be the introductory part, second, prospects of India-China trade relations, In the third section we will discuss trade potentiality between India and China through the trade intensity indices and in the last we will present our Concluding observation.
